Hello Gil,
Thank you for your question about bidding on a BIN. You are mistaken. It is possible to place items on a Buy-it-Now. However, there has to be a pre-existing bid on the item, which converts it into an auction. This is explained on both our website as well as eBay's.
In these situations, the customer just buys the item outright instead of offering to pay more.
I hope this has been explained to your satisfaction. We are happy to answer any other questions you have.

You are not correct. The item had 9 bids under the buy it now option . It was bidding for $200 almost a week. The buy it now was $499 .
I placed a bid to snipe on your app for $520 .
To my disappointment your app never tried to bid for me and it sold for $314 .
Your app later said a message that my maximum bid was higher than the buy it now option for $499 so you guys never sent a bid from me .
This does not make sense. Why disnt you make any attempt to bid ? Why didnt you let me know it was not allowed ? I lost a very important bid and I can't trust your app. Usually it worked fine, but I cant afford to not participate .
Your explanation has nothing to do with what happened. There were o bids , it was budding at $200 , I offered $520, it sold for $315 and you never sent my bid .

The "log" icon next to the snipe shows the exact date and time of each action taken. The history shows the following.
1. You originally bid $415 which is why we accepted the bid.
2. You increased the bid several times.
3. We placed the bid twice from two different locations, and each gave the same result.
4. The exact error is "Please enter a price lower than Buy It Now price. If you wish to bid, you may enter a price lower than the Buy It Now price 499."
Our job is to place the bid and return the result. I fail to see anything we could have done better here. We have no way of knowing what proxy bids exist on the item, as that information is held secret.

You should have rejected my bid for over $499. You guys should know that it is invalid. I am sure its not the first time. For me , yes it was the 1st time. your software needs to be modified to not accept invalid bids.

We do reject the bid if there are zero bids.
BIN terms differ across categories and countries. There is no way we can program in 17,000 categories across 21 different eBay sites, that is over 3 million combinations. Add to this the possibility of there being a reserve, making it 7 million combinations.
eBay's own help section is vague on this, making it impossible for a programmer to know what to do in every situation.

We've given you iron-clad evidence that we placed it, as well as the error message they returned.
If you have any suggestions on how we could improve, I would surely like to know so that we can implement the feature.

Apart my disappointment. I have been very happy with your service most of the time.
It would be very helpful if you would not take bids when they are higher than the buy it now price
Simple.

It is simple: If you want an explanation as to why eBay rejected this bid, then please contact eBay.
We must place the bid because 99% of the time eBay accepts the bid.
If we didn't place the bid, you would surely be upset about that as well.
We have no way of knowing why eBay rejected your bid other than the explanation provided in their own message.
If you have any suggestions on how we could improve, I would surely like to know so that we can implement the feature.

I appreciate you placing the bid. I didn't see that you did anywhere. My suggestion is that you make people aware before the auction, it's too late after the auction.
Normally I wouldn't care, but this time I was very upset. It was very important for me.
You should adjust your web site to avoid doing this. Your clients have no way to know that without stepping on the problem you are now aware of too.

As I have explained several times, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE to check for this situation or make people aware. If it were, we would have implemented it already.
In this situation and hundreds of others, the only way to know if a bid will be accepted is to place it.
