How Does BidWiser Work?

BidWiser uses artificial intelligence to analyze eBay listings and provide you with safety insights before you bid.

The Analysis Process

Step 1: Data Collection

When you click the BidWiser shield icon, we fetch data from eBay using 5 different API calls:

  • GetItem - Full item details including description, condition, photos, and seller info
  • GetUser - Detailed seller profile, registration date, and verification status
  • GetFeedback - Recent negative and neutral feedback with seller responses
  • GetItemShipping - Shipping costs and options for your location
  • GetStore - Seller's eBay store information (if applicable)

Step 2: AI Analysis

All this data is sent to our AI engine (ChatGPT 4o-mini with custom prompts) which:

  • Evaluates seller trustworthiness based on history and feedback patterns
  • Assesses listing quality including description, photos, and pricing
  • Identifies potential red flags and concerns
  • Recognizes positive trust indicators

Step 3: Score Generation

The AI generates three reliability scores (0-100):

  • Seller Score - How trustworthy is this seller?
  • Listing Score - How well-presented and legitimate is this listing?
  • Overall Score - Combined assessment of the transaction

Step 4: Results Display

A popup window shows:

  • The three scores with color coding (green/yellow/red)
  • Positive indicators (green checkmarks)
  • Cautions to consider (yellow warnings)
  • Red flags to be aware of (red alerts)
  • A summary paragraph explaining the key findings

Caching

Results are cached for 10 days. This means:

  • Viewing the same item again is instant
  • It doesn't count toward your daily quota
  • You can share the analysis link with others

To force a fresh analysis, add ?nocache=1 to the URL.

The AI Model

We use ChatGPT 4o-mini with carefully crafted prompts designed specifically for eBay listing analysis. Our prompts are tuned to:

  • Be generous with good sellers (not overly suspicious)
  • Flag real concerns (not trivial matters)
  • Provide actionable insights
  • Quote specific feedback when relevant
